Quantitative Methods in Linguistics

What: Workshop on Quantitative Methods in Linguistics

Who: Keith Johnson, UC Berkeley

Where: Annenberg 345, Northwestern Campus (Evanston)

When: Sunday, June 16, 2013, 10:30am - 6:00pm (lunch provided).
The workshop will be followed by a group dinner -- details forthcoming.
On the morning of Monday, June 17, Keith Johnson will have limited availability for individual meetings. Look out for future emails regarding dinner RSVPs and Monday individual meeting sign-ups.

Description: This workshop will focus on linear modeling. Using R's capacity to create data sets, we will create sets with known factors and examine how to detect the presence of factors that we know are there. We will begin from a very basic understanding of regression, and over the course of more and more complex datasets, we will aim to learn about more and more complex linear models. In particular, we will explore mixed effects models and think about questions of whether one should include only random intercepts or also random interaction terms.

Sign-up: Please email Charlotte Vaughn by Friday, May 24 in order to sign up for the workshop. In this email, please also mention if you have any dietary restrictions.

Important note: Participants should plan on bringing their own laptops to the workshop. Please contact the organizing committee if this presents a problem for you.
