Tentative Program:
Friday, June 10
Workshop session 1: 9:00 am - 12:00 noon
Theoretical introduction to third wave variation theory, focusing on style and the nature of social indexicality.
Workshop session 2: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Presentation of data for stylistic analysis, with participants isolating variables of interest. Analysis of segmental and prosodic variables will be assigned as homework.
Saturday, June 11
Workshop session 3: 9:00 am - 12:00 noon
Presentation of participants' analyses of individual variables.
Workshop session 4: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Stylistic analysis of the variables presented, with discussion of the social meanings that emerge.
