Visiting Assistant Professor

The Department of Linguistics at Northwestern University invites applications for a full-time, non-renewable, two year visiting assistant professor position with a start date as early as January 1, 2025. We are looking for candidates who can help provide our graduate students with courses and research training in cutting-edge theoretical and empirical approaches to the study of meaning and sentence structure (broadly construed). We are particularly interested in candidates who pursue interdisciplinary approaches, drawing on theory and methods from adjacent disciplines (e.g., anthropology, cognitive science, communication sciences, computer science, philosophy, and psychology). Responsibilities include teaching four graduate courses (including seminars) on the quarter system each year (3 10-week terms per year); organizing co-curricular workshops to advance graduate training and professional development; and participation in graduate student qualifying paper committees.

To facilitate their research, the visiting assistant professor will have full access to the labs and other facilities of the Department of Linguistics.

Review of applications will begin immediately. To receive fullest consideration, applications should arrive by November 10, 2024. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Linguistics or a related field by the start date. Applications should include a CV with the applicant’s contact information, brief statements of research and teaching interests (1-3 pages each), up to 3 reprints or other written work (including thesis chapters for ABD applicants), teaching evaluations (if available), and the names and contact information for three references.
