Driving
directions from Midway Airport
Note: When leaving Midway, drive north on Cicero Ave (which runs along the
east side of the airport) in order to get to I-55.
By Taxi
Midway is a small, one-story airport with one terminal, located in southwest Chicago. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to drive from Midway to Evanston. We recommend that you take Norshore Cabs to get to campus from Midway. The company is based in Evanston, so they know exactly how to get to the university and they charge a flat rate, about $37, which is a good deal. The trip will take between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on traffic.
Norshore doesn't have taxis waiting at Midway as they do at O'Hare, so the wait will be longer, up to 40 minutes. However, there is a way to avoid the wait. If you expect to use Norshore from Midway, you can e-mail us with your airline and flight number and we will reserve a cab for you. Norshore will call your airline 20 minutes before you are scheduled to arrive to confirm your arrival time, so if your plane is delayed, the cab won't come until you do. Once you arrive, just pick up your luggage and walk outside and look for the pale yellow cab with a red stripe and "Norshore" on the side. If for some reason you don't reserve a cab ahead of time, call Norshore at 1-800-244-9200 when you arrive. They will ask you where you are going (you can just tell them that you are going to Northwestern University) and what airline you used to get to Midway. They will usually tell you the number of the cab that will pick you up. The cab will generally wait at the entrance closest to the baggage claim of your airline. If the cab does not arrive within 10 minutes, call Norshore at 1-800-244-9200 and they'll get things straightened out.
Once the cab has arrived, you can tell the driver that you are going to a parking lot between Foster and Noyes on Sheridan Rd (around 2029 Sheridan). The parking lot is on the east side of the street. Once you have found the parking lot, ask the driver to drive all the way to the back of the lot and down a little hill, and to turn left at the base of the hill. On your left will be Annenberg Hall, the site of the conference, a new-looking white-stone three-story building.
By Elevated Rail
During rush hour, take the Orange Line downtown to the Loop and change to a Purple Line Train (also called the Evanston Express). Take the Purple line train all the way north to Davis or Foster Street. During non-peak hours, take the Orange line downtown to the Loop and change to a Brown Line train. Take the train north to Belmont or Fullerton and exit the train. Wait on the platorm until a northbound Red Line train arrives (it will say "Howard" on the front). Take the Red line north to Howard Street. Exit the train at Howard, but stay on the platform until a Purple Line train arrives. Take the Purple Line north to Foster Street. Walk east on Foster Street until you reach Sheridan Road. Cross the street and walk north on Sheridan until you reach a huge parking lot. Walk all the way to the back of the lot and down a little hill, and turn left at the base of the hill, at the stop sign. On your left will be Annenberg Hall, the site of the conference, a new-looking white-stone three-story building.
